A Miracle!!! (Crystals) | and More Linux related Updates
Seriously, that's how I feel about it. But first,
/codex/arch_setup.v1.0.pdf - is the result of my "Linux Workout"
and - maybe not complete or perfect. I mean, I've consolidated my system and then noticed that I forgot filezilla or something. Now I'm thinking that
I would also want to have syslinux and mtools on board - and ... yea, that's ... round about my first topic here.
"Linux Sucks". I know the feeling; And ... yes. So, having now had a week+ time to get back into it - things are also coming back to me. My first thought
was to install Arch because it's the distro that ended up working for me the best. And maybe so because the system itself is a bit unwieldy. Especially
for me. I mean, Arch is said to be a rolling release - like, bleeding edge. And that's also why Arch breaking on people ... isn't unheard of. So, I'd download
my stuff - have everything tight and working - but then ... pacman becomes this scary monster. So, you have to deal with what you're capable of putting
together. Which may very well be jank.
On the other hand we have Ubuntu. I want to say that it's incredibly easy to underestimate it. I was saying that the Arch Wiki is great, but Ubuntu articles
also offer some great insight. And when they do, they're usually better and more comprehensive than on Arch. However, the vast majority of Ubuntu solutions
by my impressions boil down to sudo apt get some weird program that probably starts with g. It's programs that do what you want to do because someone
figured it'd be nice - while on Arch you have to first read the manual, then maybe some manpages, then do some googling until you maybe start venting on
a forum while coming to terms with the fact that you'll still have configs to edit.
So, it's a smart choice for smart people.
When it comes to mint I'm having a bit of a ... well, "vibes flash"? From the opinions I've heard - the philosophy of it is also incredibly sound. It is based on
Ubuntu and hence you're not too far off the beat. But it's a slow release. The opposite to Arch. I don't know. But ... my heart says 'yes' - DEEPLY recommend
it - for reasons not totally in the scope of MY consciousness.
But - ... there's one more. One more you maybe want to try. If I hadn't set up my system as it is - with partitions and all - I'd give it a shot. It sounds promising,
like ... 'this is the future of Linux' type of promising. And the amount of repositories they boast are maybe a sign of that. From what I glance you can expect
a steep learning curve - but then you have something that's "Like Windows" - in the sense that you don't need to worry about your system. Except it's nothing
like Windows. So, I'd recommend you watch some Videos and see if's maybe for you. I'm talking, of course, of NixOS. And the artwork is also ... yea, not
important but ... to me it's ... chef's kiss. For what the distro wants/claims to be. I mean, it's ... I don't. Like how orange is just this ... special color in a way.
Well - not important.
But yea. You can also use my Arch Setup and apply it to a NixOS installation.
And that concludes that part.
Now ... Miracle. I mean ... looking back at how many wrong turns I've taken, how often I've lost myself in some weird setup - I was basically under the
impression that that's how it's going to be. But then something else in my was always super confident. Always. So, that this has come together the way
it did - that's ... that's a fucking miracle. To me. And I'm not kidding or exaggerating. What are the odds? Well, depending on whom you ask: It was
inevitable! Anyway ... am now updating the Stuff page and then ... I don't know.
Hmm ... I suppose I should work on a Crystals manual before then going into filesystem stuff. But before that I may want to look at the Inputs.
